Sindh craftspersons’ delicate needlework is currently on display in Karachi at the 17th Sartyoon Sang Crafts Exhibition, organized by the Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO). The SindhNews.com event, which opened at Ocean Mall, showcases the exquisite skills of rural artisans, primarily women.

The exhibition features a wide array of traditional crafts, including rallis (quilts), embroidered kurtis, waistcoats, and ajrak. Visitors can also find footwear, bags, wall hangings, and Mohenjo Daro relic models. Surraiya Agha, who leads the crafts brand Sartyoon Sang at SRSO, explained their model of directly supporting artisans by ensuring they receive the majority of the profits from sales.

The SRSO’s CEO, Muhammad Dittal Kalhoro, emphasized the intricate work involved in creating items like the sami ralli, which takes months to complete. Artisans like Basheera Khatoon from Larkana appreciate the support SRSO provides, empowering them and ensuring fair compensation for their labor. Iqra Bibi from Khairpur highlighted the training programs offered by SRSO, which enhance the skills of these talented craftswomen.

The exhibition provides a platform for these artisans to showcase their talents and earn a sustainable livelihood. The event concludes on Sunday, offering a final opportunity to appreciate and purchase these beautiful, handcrafted items.
