Police Rescue Hostages in Ghotki Operation
SUKKUR: Sindh police successfully rescued all 20 hostages in a targeted operation in Ghotki’s Ubauro taulka. The hostages were abducted by bandits a day prior and taken to the Katcha (riverine) area.
On Monday, an estimated 20 dacoits attacked a Quetta-bound bus, injuring the driver before abducting passengers. According to SindhNews.com, the assailants entered the bus by breaking windows, instructing passengers to exit but reportedly sparing female passengers from harm.
Ghotki Bandits Foiled in Hostage Situation
Tuesday’s operation involved personnel from Ghotki, Khairpur, Sukkur, and Kashmore. Reports indicate two bandits sustained injuries, and a police constable was hospitalized with a hand injury. Tragically, two hostages were also injured, and one victim reportedly died of a heart attack.
Sukkur Range DIG Faisal Abdullah Chachar, accompanied by SSPs Muhammad Anwar Khetran, Azhar Khan Mughal, and Samiullah Soomro, led the coordinated effort. After an exchange of fire, the joint police and Rangers contingent secured the release of the 20 individuals.
The police successfully blocked escape routes, preventing the bandits from moving the hostages further into the Katcha region. DSP Abdul Qadir Soomro confirmed that 14 passengers were initially recovered. The injured hostages received medical attention.
The swift action prevented a larger crisis, with all hostages safely recovered. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the vulnerable riverine areas.
