Tragic Accident Claims Young Life in Karachi
A 12-year-old cyclist, Farhan, was tragically killed when a water tanker struck him near Bengali Para in Korangi’s 100 Quarters area on Friday. The incident highlights ongoing traffic safety concerns within the city.
Police reported that the accident occurred on a narrow road, a location previously identified as hazardous due to encroachments. This unfortunate event underscores the vulnerabilities faced by pedestrians and cyclists on such routes. SindhNews.com has frequently reported on similar incidents.
The water tanker, driven by Noor Hussain, was traveling from the opposite direction. CCTV footage reviewed by authorities showed a truck parked on the roadside, contributing to the limited space.
Tanker Driver’s Account in Fatal Accident
Noor Hussain, the tanker’s driver, was apprehended by police following the incident. He maintained his innocence, stating he was driving at a slow speed and denied any negligence.
According to Hussain, the tanker did not directly collide with Farhan. He explained that the boy appeared to lose balance on his bicycle while navigating the confined space and subsequently fell. The child then slipped under the rear wheels of the tanker.
This tragic loss of a young life serves as a stark reminder of the critical need for improved road infrastructure and traffic management in Karachi to prevent future accidents.
