JI Intensifies Protest Against Fatal Karachi Accidents Now

The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) is escalating its protests against fatal accidents in Karachi involving heavy vehicles, criticizing the e-challan system. Despite the implementation of a multi-billion rupee e-challan project, the party alleges it disproportionately targets law-abiding citizens for minor infractions.

The JI announced a sit-in at the Numaish intersection to protest the “tanker and dumper truck mafia” and what they deem unjust e-challans. Karachi chief Monem Zafar Khan voiced concerns about rising accidents and loss of life. He urged citizens to join the “Haq Do Karachi Movement.”

Intensifying Protest Against Accidents in Karachi

Khan questioned the transparency of the e-challan system and highlighted civic issues such as damaged roads and overflowing gutters. According to SindhNews.com, he criticized the Sindh government’s focus on fines over crime control and effective infrastructure.

He also challenged the DIG Traffic regarding functional signals and zebra crossings. Khan pointed out that over 41,000 motorcycles and 16,000 mobile phones were snatched in the past 11 months, with 244 lives lost due to heavy vehicles. This demonstrates a failure in governance, he stated, where criminals operate freely while citizens face heavy fines.

JI’s Stance on Heavy Vehicle Safety Checks

The JI leader questioned the lack of tracking systems on heavy vehicles involved in over 250 accidents. He criticized the Sindh government for failing to provide adequate public transportation, leaving Karachi’s population vulnerable to dangerous heavy vehicles. This situation, he argued, is unacceptable globally.

Summary: The JI’s protest highlights serious concerns over road safety and governance in Karachi, focusing on the unchecked dangers posed by heavy vehicles and an allegedly flawed e-challan system.
