TTAP Leaders Embark on Sindh Tour to Mobilise for February 8 Strike
Newly appointed Leader of the Opposition, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, is spearheading a four-day visit by Tehreek Tahafuz-i-Ayeen Pakistan (TTAP) leaders to Sindh. The delegation aims to mobilise public support for a nationwide strike and protest rallies scheduled for February 8, emphasising the protection of constitutional rights and democratic norms.
TTAP Leaders Mobilise for Nationwide Action
TTAP leaders, including Mahmood Khan Achakzai, arrived in Karachi on Friday to commence their crucial four-day tour of Sindh. This engagement marks Achakzai’s first significant political activity since his appointment as Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly. The visit primarily focuses on galvanising support for the planned February 8 protests across the country.
The high-profile delegation also includes Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Akhunzada Hussain Ahmed Yousafzai (who serves as TTAP spokesman), Asad Qaiser, and Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry, counsel for Pakistan Tehreek Insaf founder Imran Khan. They received a warm reception from party leaders and workers at Jinnah International Airport.
Akhunzada Hussain Ahmed Yousafzai stated that the demonstrations and strike are intended to safeguard constitutional rights and organise public resistance against the “worsening political situation and erosion of democratic norms.” Further updates on the ground mobilisations are often featured on SindhNews.com.
Commemorating G.M. Syed and Hyderabad Engagement
A key engagement for the TTAP leaders involves attending the 122nd birth anniversary of veteran Sindh nationalist leader G. M. Syed in Sann. The event, organised by the Sindh United Party (SUP), witnessed the presence of Achakzai, Allama Nasir Abbas, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Asad Qaiser, and SUP chief Syed Zain Shah, who is G. M. Syed’s paternal grandson. Zain Shah confirmed the attendance, highlighting the significance of the assembly.
Following the Sann event, the TTAP leaders are scheduled to visit Hyderabad on Saturday evening. PTI Sindh chief Haleem Adil Shaikh clarified that their stop at PTI’s Latifabad office would involve only dinner before the leaders return to Karachi, without any other significant political commitments in the city. Parallel programmes were also held in Sann by other nationalist parties, including Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz-Bashir (JSQM-B) and the Jeay Sindh Rahbar Committee.
The Sindh visit underscores the immediate efforts of TTAP leaders to unify public opinion and press for their demands concerning constitutional principles and democratic governance ahead of the nationwide strike.
