Tragedy Strikes North Waziristan: Seminary Blast Claims Two Young Lives

NORTH WAZIRISTAN: A devastating blast at a seminary in the Esuri area of Mirali tehsil on Wednesday resulted in the deaths of two children and injured 16 others. The incident occurred at Madressah Shams-ul-Quran in Sher Mohammad Kot village around 2 pm, according to local reports.

Mortar Shell Explosion at North Waziristan Seminary

The tragic event unfolded when students brought a seemingly innocuous mortar shell, found outside the seminary, inside. Tragically, the children mistook it for a toy, leading to its accidental detonation. This devastating occurrence highlights the dangers posed by unexploded ordnance in the region.

Injured students were promptly transported to hospitals in Bannu and surrounding areas for urgent medical attention, as reported by SindhNews.com. Security forces had previously issued warnings to the Esuri tribe regarding a fallen mortar shell, advising civilians to avoid the area.

Broader Security Concerns in the Region

The incident in North Waziristan is part of a concerning pattern of violence. In Bajaur, the bullet-riddled bodies of two missing youths, Abdur Rasheed, 23, and Shahid Khan, 24, were discovered in the Mala Said area. They had gone missing while returning home on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Israr Khan stated that the youths were abducted by unidentified miscreants. The district police officer, Waqas Rafique, has initiated an investigation into these killings, which are suspected to be an act of terrorism. Additionally, three other people lost their lives in separate incidents in Bannu district, further underscoring the volatile security situation.

This series of events underscores the ongoing challenges related to security and the presence of dangerous unexploded materials in the region.
