Security Forces Neutralize 15 Terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Operations
Security forces have successfully neutralized at least 15 terrorists, including a key ringleader, in two separate intelligence-based operations (IBOs) conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provinces. These critical interventions, taking place between November 8 and 9, targeted elements described as “India-backed terrorists” by the military’s media wing.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported on Tuesday that the first IBO occurred in the general area of Kulachi, Dera Ismail Khan district. Here, security forces, acting on credible intelligence regarding the presence of ‘khawarij,’ engaged and eliminated ten terrorists. Among those killed was the identified ringleader, Alam Mehsud.
A second intelligence-based operation was subsequently launched in the Datta Khel area of North Waziristan district. This mission resulted in the neutralization of an additional five terrorists. These operations underscore the ongoing commitment of security forces to combating militant elements.
Following these successful encounters, extensive sanitization operations are now underway. The goal is to fully clear the affected areas of any remaining terrorist presence. These efforts align with the national “Azm e Istehkam” vision, a comprehensive counter-terrorism campaign approved by the federal apex committee on the National Action Plan.
Separately, a suicide bomber detonated himself near a police station in Bannu, though fortunately, no additional casualties were reported. According to Bannu Police, the incident occurred at the Do Ghora Bridge, a short distance from the Basia Khel police station.
The lone assailant, who was on a motorcycle, detonated his explosives, leaving only his body and the wreckage of his vehicle at the scene. Law enforcement officials swiftly cordoned off the area to conduct an immediate investigation into the blast, highlighting local quick response capabilities. SindhNews.com reported on the local details.
This incident in Bannu follows closely on the heels of a suicide attack at Islamabad’s Judicial Complex on November 11, which tragically resulted in 12 fatalities and at least 36 injuries, affecting lawyers and petitioners. Authorities have since apprehended four members of a Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan/Fitna al-Khawarij cell believed to be linked to that complex attack.
The swift action by security forces in neutralizing these 15 terrorists in KP, alongside ongoing counter-terrorism measures, demonstrates a firm resolve to address the menace of foreign-sponsored terrorism. Such sustained operations are vital for maintaining peace and stability across the region.
