Teenage Maid Kidnapped and Sexually Assaulted in Karachi
Karachi: A 17-year-old girl was kidnapped and subjected to gang rape in Gulshan-i-Maymar, as reported by authorities on Wednesday. Police surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed confirmed at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital that the teenage girl sustained sexual violence. “All relevant samples have been collected for serology, DNA profiling and cross-matching,” Dr. Syed stated, ensuring a thorough forensic investigation.
Prompt Action Amidst Allegations of Delay
Police claim they took immediate steps, apprehending one suspect shortly after the incident. Efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the remaining individuals involved. According to the victim’s account to a private news channel, she works as a domestic helper and was allegedly abducted by influential men.
The accuser shared a distressing experience of being taken to an undisclosed location and enduring severe sexual and physical abuse. She also alleged that upon reaching the police station with her family, the Station House Officer (SHO) initially refused to register her First Information Report (FIR).
IGP Sindh Takes Notice, SHO Suspended
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, Javed Alam Odho, has intervened in the matter. He ordered the suspension and demotion of the area SHO for alleged delays in registering the FIR, as confirmed by a police spokesperson.
IGP Odho also requested a comprehensive report from the West Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). This inquiry aims to address the alleged delaying tactics employed by the police.
Case Registered Following IGP’s Intervention
Subsequently, a case has been formally registered at the Gulshan-i-Maymar police station based on the complaint lodged by the victim’s brother. This development marks a crucial step towards seeking justice for the survivor.
