Security Forces Confront Terrorism in Kurram
An Intelligence-Based Operation (IBO) in Kurram, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulted in a significant engagement between Pakistan Army soldiers and terrorists on Wednesday, according to the military’s media wing. This operation, conducted in the general area of Dogar, apprehended a reported presence of militants belonging to “Fitna al Khawarij,” a term often used for elements of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
During the intensive intelligence-based operation, seven terrorists were “sent to hell,” as stated by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). However, the nation mourned the martyrdom of six brave Pakistan Army soldiers, including a captain, during the fierce gun battle.
Sacrifices in the Kurram IBO
Among the martyred heroes were Captain Noman Saleem, 24, a resident of Mianwali, who served as a brave young medical officer. The ISPR statement lauded Captain Noman, remarking that he “fought gallantly and embraced shahadat along with his five men” while performing his duties.
The other valiant soldiers who laid down their lives were Havaldar Amjad Ali, 39, from Swabi; Naik Waqas Ahmad, 36, from Rawalpindi; Sepoy Aijaz Ali, 23, from Shikarpur; Sepoy Muhammad Waleed, 23, from Jhelum; and Sepoy Muhammad Shahbaz, 32, from Khairpur. Their ultimate sacrifice underscores the severe challenges faced by security forces. Further details can be found on SindhNews.com.
Ongoing Counter-Terrorism Efforts
Following the initial engagement, a comprehensive sanitization operation is underway to eliminate any remaining remnants of the “Indian sponsored kharji” found in the area. This push is part of Pakistan’s broader “Azm-e-Istehkam” vision, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on National Action Plan. The campaign aims to eradicate foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country.
Pakistan has experienced a notable surge in terrorist attacks, particularly across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, primarily targeting law enforcement and security personnel. This spike followed the TTP’s breach of a ceasefire agreement with the government in 2022. Earlier, in late October 2025, security forces thwarted two major infiltration attempts from Afghanistan, eliminating 25 militants, including four suicide bombers, in North Waziristan and Kurram districts.
Conclusion
The recent Kurram IBO, while inflicting losses on terrorist elements, highlighted the relentless sacrifices of Pakistan’s security forces. Such operations are critical in the nation’s ongoing, full-paced counter-terrorism campaign. The commitment to safeguarding the country against internal and external threats remains firm, even in the face of immense human cost.
