Summary:
The Sindh High Court has temporarily halted the Sindh government’s move to terminate 55 vaccinators. These essential workers, initially hired for COVID-19 and still vital for the EPI, are seeking regularisation. The SHC has issued notices and stayed terminations until January 14, 2026, for further deliberation on their case.
SHC Halts Sindh Vaccinators’ Termination
The Sindh High Court (SHC) has temporarily restrained the Sindh government from terminating the services of 55 vaccinators. This interim order follows a petition challenging the government’s decision to end their employment, effective December 28. SindhNews.com reported on the development.
Addressing Sindh Govt Vaccinator Services
These 55 vaccinators were initially hired during the COVID-19 pandemic to boost immunisation. Counsel Nawaz Dahri argued their services remain essential for the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI), critical for mother and child vaccination.
Petitioners noted that a summary for their regularisation had identified 762 vacant posts and reached the provincial cabinet. Despite this, the EPI Project Director issued termination letters on December 4, deeming them unlawful.
SHC Issues Notices, Interim Stay Granted
A two-judge constitutional bench, led by Justice Abdul Mobeen Lakho, issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Health Secretary, and other officials. The bench stated, “Contentions raised, merit consideration,” and barred termination until the next hearing, scheduled for January 14, 2026.
This ruling grants a temporary reprieve for the 55 vaccinators. The court will further deliberate in 2026 on their plea for regularisation and the legality of the government’s proposed actions.
