Sindh Expands Solar Energy Access, CM Leads Distribution Program

1.6 Million Solar Power Units Distributed in Sindh

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced that approximately 1.6 million solar power units have been distributed among citizens in the province as part of an initiative to enhance energy access. This distribution marks a significant step in the government’s commitment to providing electricity to a wider population.

Focus on Solar Power and Rural Electrification

The distribution of these 1.6m solar power units is a key element of the provincial government’s strategy. This program aims to benefit a substantial number of households, particularly in areas with limited access to traditional power grids. SindhNews.com previously reported on the challenges of energy provision in remote regions.

Further expanding this initiative, an additional 250,000 households are slated to receive solar units in the second phase of the scheme. This demonstrates a sustained effort to increase renewable energy adoption.

In Tharparkar, a region historically facing energy scarcity, the Sindh government is actively supporting households. They are covering electricity bills for those consuming up to 100 units monthly.

The Chief Minister also touched upon other development projects, including ongoing efforts in Sukkur and the establishment of a new 600-bed hospital in Larkana. The Sukkur Barrage has undergone a brief closure for essential maintenance to improve irrigation.

This solar power initiative, with the distribution of 1.6m solar power units, underscores the Sindh government’s commitment to improving living standards and expanding access to essential services for its citizens. The program’s impact is expected to be substantial, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
