Karachi Zoo Transformed: Explore Stunning New Recreational Spots

Karachi Zoo Undergoes Major Transformation with New Upgrades

Karachi Zoo has undergone a significant transformation, with City Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurating new infrastructure and upgraded recreational spots on Sunday. The mayor articulated a clear vision to redefine the facility, also known as Gandhi Garden, as a modern, safe, and nature-friendly recreational and educational center, aligning with international standards.

Karachi Zoo’s Modern Transformation
Key developments include a newly constructed, two-acre enclosure for lions Chandni and Rani. This modern habitat features bulletproof glass and special arrangements for water play, closely mimicking their natural environment. The zoo’s Reptile House has also been reopened to the public following extensive renovations.

Enhancements for visitors include modern walkways, comfortable seating areas, and informative signboards. A beautiful new tower has also been constructed, catering to families and selfie enthusiasts. Mayor Wahab confirmed that daily entry fees, set at Rs30 for children and Rs50 for adults, are directly reinvested into the zoo’s ongoing improvement.

Animal welfare remains a central focus. Measures ensure better food, care, and health for the animals, with additional veterinary doctors being acquired. The successful breeding of elephants like Rani and Chandni within the facility is cited as proof of the animals’ health. SindhNews.com reported on these initiatives. The focus is on existing animal care and breeding, not acquiring new large species.

Regarding the stray dog issue, the mayor noted that previous neutering efforts “did not work as envisioned,” and a balanced solution is being sought, with final decisions resting with the City Council.

These extensive upgrades ensure Karachi Zoo continues to serve as an accessible and enriching recreational and educational hub for the city’s diverse population.
