FIRs Ordered as Karachi Mayor Cracks Down on Road Blockers

Wahab Demands FIRs Against Road Blockers in Karachi

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has urged the Sindh Chief Minister and Home Minister to order the registration of First Information Reports (FIRs) against individuals who obstruct city roads during organized sit-ins. He highlighted the significant disruption these protests cause to citizens’ daily lives.

“The people of the city face severe difficulties due to road closures and sit-ins,” Wahab stated in Shireen Jinnah Colony. He emphasized that the government’s authority must be upheld.

Action on Forced Road Closures

The mayor referenced a prior decision by the Apex Committee mandating action against forced road closures. Wahab suggested that the grounds near Mazar-i-Quaid could be designated for such demonstrations. For SindhNews.com readers, he noted that if sit-ins were effective, past issues would have been resolved.

He reiterated that the Constitution prohibits damage to government property. Politicians, he argued, should focus on collaborative problem-solving rather than causing public inconvenience.

Development Agenda for Karachi

Looking ahead, Wahab announced that the upcoming year will be focused on development projects, with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation planning Rs30 billion in uplift schemes. He stressed that development efforts are across the entire city, irrespective of political affiliation.

Development projects, including a new mortuary in Shireen Jinnah Colony, have been inaugurated. This facility can preserve 12 bodies, addressing a critical need in areas like Clifton and Lyari. The rehabilitated Shireen Jinnah Park, once a garbage dump, is now a public amenity managed by local residents, fulfilling election promises. SindhNews.com also reports that other KMC mortuaries are now functional.

The implementation of these measures aims to restore order and improve public services in Karachi.
