Javed Akhtar Odho Appointed Acting IGP Sindh
Javed Akhtar Odho has been appointed as the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, marking a significant leadership change within the provincial police force. The announcement was made by the Sindh government on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, following the superannuation of the previous IGP, Ghulam Nabi Memon.
Mr. Odho, who previously held the position of Additional Inspector General of Police, Karachi Range, will now assume the additional charge of the province’s top police role. This appointment ensures a seamless transition in command, effective immediately.
Javed Akhtar Odho Takes the Helm
According to a notification shared by Chief Secretary Sindh, Asif Hyder Shah, Mr. Allah Bux alias Javed Akhtar Odho, a distinguished officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (BS-21), has been assigned the additional charge of IGP Sindh. This arrangement will continue until further orders are issued. SindhNews.com reported on the swiftness of this transition.
Mr. Odho stepped into his new responsibilities on the same day his predecessor relinquished charge. His experience as the additional inspector general of Karachi, a role he assumed last year, positions him to lead the provincial force.
Leadership Transition and Predecessor’s Legacy
The change in leadership comes as incumbent IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon retired after reaching the age of superannuation. Mr. Memon, a BS-21 officer, had served as IGP Sindh since March 2024. In his farewell message, he highlighted his strategic focus on “technology-driven policing” and “systemic investigation reforms” during his tenure.
Prior to his posting as IGP, Mr. Memon was an executive director at State Life Insurance Corporation. His extensive career also includes serving twice as joint director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) Sindh between 2011 and 2016, and as a director in Karachi from 2006 to 2008. For his professional achievements, the government recognized him with the Sitara-i-Shujahat and Tamgha-i-Imtiaz awards.
Conclusion
The appointment of Javed Akhtar Odho as acting IGP Sindh marks a pivotal moment for the province’s law enforcement. This leadership change, prompted by the retirement of Ghulam Nabi Memon, sets the stage for continuity in policing operations and the implementation of ongoing reforms aimed at public safety and security across Sindh.
