Sindh-WB Partnership Crucial for Reforms, Says CM Murad

Sindh-WB partnership is central to the province’s reform and recovery agenda, according to Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. He emphasized a desire for faster implementation and stronger outcomes for citizens.

This was stated at a recent review meeting with a World Bank delegation on Wednesday. The delegation, led by Country Director Bolormaa Amgaabazar, met with the CM to assess ongoing projects. Provincial ministers and officials were also in attendance, as reported by SindhNews.com.

World Bank’s Significant Investment in Sindh

The World Bank actively funds 13 projects across Sindh, with a total commitment of $3.8 billion. To date, $1.96 billion has been disbursed. For the current financial year, a disbursement target of $700.25 million has been set.

CM Shah directed departments to address any bottlenecks and ensure timely project execution. He stressed that “every dollar must translate into measurable improvements in people’s lives.”

Focus on Urban Development and Infrastructure

Key urban projects include the $230 million Competitive and Livable City of Karachi (Click) Project and the $382 million Karachi Mobility Project. The $100 million Solid Waste Emergency and Efficiency Project is also underway.

Officials confirmed that 161 schemes in Town Municipal Committees, valued at $66.7 million, are progressing, with an average physical progress of 61 percent. KMC schemes worth $19 million are also ongoing.

Enhancing Urban Planning and Service Delivery

The urban property tax survey in Karachi has enumerated 3.1 million out of 3.3 million properties. CM Shah highlighted that this survey will increase local government revenue. He advocated for integrated urban planning to improve Karachi’s liveability.

The water, sanitation, and irrigation portfolio includes projects like the $240 million Second Karachi Water & Sewerage Services Improvement Project. CM Shah underscored, “Water and sanitation investments are not optional.”

Investing in Education and Health Sectors

For education, the $154.76 million Sindh Early Learning Enhancement through Classroom Transformation (SELECT) project is enhancing early-grade learning. In health, the $200 million Sindh Integrated Health & Population Project remains a priority.

CM Shah stated that “primary healthcare, maternal and child health, and emergency services remain top priorities.” The meeting also covered projects related to social protection and flood rehabilitation.
