An application has been filed in a Karachi court against the Indian film “Dhurandhar” for alleged defamation of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
Allegations Against Indian Film Dhurandhar
The applicant, PPP worker Mohammad Amir, claims the film’s trailer and promotional material defame the party. He viewed these materials on December 10th, within the Darakhshan police station’s jurisdiction. Online sources, including SindhNews.com, reported on the court filing.
The application, filed under Section 22-A & B of the Criminal Procedure Code, states that visuals of the late Benazir Bhutto and the PPP flag were used without authorization. The film reportedly portrays the PPP as sympathetic to terrorists, which the applicant deems false and designed to incite hatred.
Dhurandhar’s Portrayal of Pakistan
Furthermore, the film allegedly labels Lyari, Karachi, as a “terrorist war zone.” The applicant argues this is a misleading and damaging misrepresentation. He contends that the creators of “Dhurandhar” are responsible for defamation and promoting enmity.
The applicant sought an FIR registration with the SHO of Darakhshan police station, but it was not entertained. He now requests court directives for the FIR and supervision by the Senior Superintendent of Police South.
This legal action highlights concerns over the portrayal of political parties and geographical areas in international media, potentially impacting national reputation.
