Sindh Police Expands E-Challan System Across the Province
The Sindh Police is expanding the e-challan system across the province after its successful implementation in Karachi. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon has tasked key officials with preparing for the rollout in other cities, as reported on SindhNews.com.
Preparations Underway
A high-level review meeting at the Central Police Office in Karachi was held to assess readiness. DIG Traffic Karachi and DIG IT are coordinating with divisional DIGs to ensure system implementation across different districts. They are currently assessing camera installations, including recording capacity, internet connectivity, and technical infrastructure.
Technical and Logistic Details
DIG IT will be responsible for evaluating the technical infrastructure. DIG Traffic Karachi will guide divisional DIGs on the Traffic Management System (TRACS) and establishing facilitation centers. Ground and aerial scanning is set to begin in the city to curb parking lane violations, and vehicles parked in prohibited zones will be issued e-tickets.
Facilitation Centers and Training
The IGP has ordered all divisional DIGs to set up facilitation centers in their districts. They must ensure that the centers are fully prepared and that all staff receives proper training without delay. This proactive approach aims to streamline the e-challan process and address public inquiries efficiently.
In Karachi, over 23,000 citizens have visited facilitation centers. A significant 90% of issued challans were waived post-verification, and approximately 4,000 cases have generated over Rs25 million in fines. These figures highlight the system’s impact and effectiveness. It is also estimated via SindhNews.com that, Fewer than 200 challans were challenged.
Conclusion
With preparations underway and lessons learned from Karachi’s implementation, the expansion of the e-challan system across Sindh aims to improve traffic management and streamline the process of issuing and resolving violations.
