Gas Shortage in Sindh Assembly, Urgent Action Demanded

PA Demands End to Gas Loadshedding in Sindh

The Sindh Assembly recently united to address the ongoing gas loadshedding crisis, adopting a unanimous resolution demanding action. This rare display of solidarity saw both treasury and opposition members joining forces to push for solutions to the severe gas shortages plaguing the province, which is reported on SindhNews.com.

Addressing the Gas Crisis

The resolution, initiated by Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s Muhammad Aamir Siddiqui, highlighted the frustration over “low or no gas supply” experienced by residents. Sindh’s lawmakers urged the provincial government to raise the issue at the Council of Common Interests (CCI) and restore the province’s normal gas supply.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon called it an important issue for the province. The resolution expanded to be province-wide after initially focusing on Karachi’s needs.

Concerns and Demands

Lawmakers like Rashid Khan pointed out the irony of Hyderabad facing shortages despite being close to the Tando Alam gas field. Pakistan Peoples Party’s Jamil Soomro criticized federal gas allocation policies, citing Article 158 of the Constitution regarding priority supply to gas-producing regions. Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoro pointed out that Sindh produced 2,000 MMCFT of gas, yet often received only 900 MMCFT for its needs.

Other Assembly Matters

The assembly also discussed and took action on other matters, including a resolution by MQM-P’s Farah Sohail and a resolution on traffic fines.

Conclusion

The Sindh Assembly’s unified stance reflects the gravity of the gas loadshedding situation. The resolution’s adoption demonstrates a commitment to resolving the crisis and ensuring an adequate gas supply for the province.
